Drive Belt: Service and Repair

Poly-ribbed belt removing and installing

Note: When installing the belt, make sure that the belt is correctly seated in the pulley grooves.

Removing

Remove Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve -N80- with retaining ring from lower part of Air Cleaner (ACL) housing. Refer to Powertrain Management, Fuel Delivery and Air Induction, Air Cleaner Housing Service and Repair
Remove Air Cleaner (ACL) housing complete with Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor -G70-.






Tempoaraily install bolt (M8 x 80) into threaded hole -A- of tensioner and thread in until poly-ribbed belt is no longer under tension.

CAUTION: Thread the bolt in only until the poly-ribbed belt can be removed, otherwise the tensioner housing can be damaged.

Remove poly-ribbed belt.

Installing:

NOTE: Before fitting the poly-ribbed belt, make sure that all sub-assemblies (Generator (GEN), air conditioner compressor, power steering pump) are tight.








Place poly-ribbed belt in position.
Remove M8 x 80 bolt from tensioner.
Install Air Cleaner (ACL) housing complete with Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor -G70-.
Connect Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve -N80- with retaining ring to lower part of Air Cleaner (ACL) housing.
Start engine and check belt running.

NOTE: Engines with an air conditioner compressor are equipped with a double poly-ribbed belt.
