Throttle Position Sensor: Adjustments
THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR, INSTALLING AND ADJUSTINGSpecial Tools, Testers And Auxiliary Items
- VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool with VAG 1551/3 adaptor cable
- Box Wrench (e.g. Hazet 4561)
Installing:
- Attach Throttle Position sensor G79 to mounting bracket
NOTE: The illustration shows the Throttle Position sensor removed from the vehicle and viewed from above.
- Attach cable cam to Throttle Position sensor so dimensions shown are maintained when facing forwards
a 22 mm (0.87 in.)
b 41 mm (1.61 in.)
c Forwards
NOTE: The cable cam eye must be parallel to forward direction.
- Install Throttle Position sensor with mounting bracket
- Install Accelerator Pedal and fit cable cam eye to pin on Accelerator Pedal
Adjustment Checking:
- Connect Scan Tool VAG 1551/1552
- Switch ON ignition
- Press 0 and 1 buttons to select Address Word 01 "engine electronics"
Display will appear as shown:
Rapid data transfer HELP
Select function XX
- Press 0 and 8 buttons to select Function 08 "Read measuring value block"
- Press Q button to enter input
Display will appear as shown:

Input display group number XX
- Press 0 and 2 buttons to select "display group 02"
- Press Q button to enter input
Display will appear as shown:
Read measuring value block 2 -->
0rpm 0.0% 0 1 0 18.4°C
- Observe Throttle Position display in channel 2 DO NOT operate Accelerator Pedal
Specification: 0.0%
- Slowly press Accelerator Pedal while observing channel 2
- Throttle Position value must increase continuously and reach 100% shortly before Wide Open Throttle
- With Accelerator Pedal in Closed Throttle Position display in channel 2 shows 0.0%
- With Accelerator Pedal at just before Wide Open Throttle position display shows 100%.
- If necessary, adjust Accelerator Pedal by turning adjustment screw -7-
