Drive Belt: Service and Repair

Poly-ribbed belt, removing/installing (vehicles with VR6 engine)

Air cleaner housing, remove. Refer to Powertrain Management, Fuel Delivery and Air Induction, Air Cleaner Housing Service and Repair







Screw MS x 80 bolt into threaded hole -A- on tensioner until poly-ribbed belt is loose.

CAUTION: ONLY screw bolt into tension roller far enough to remove belt. Screwing the bolt into the tension roller too far can damage the tension roller cover.

Remove poly-ribbed belt

Installing:

NOTE: Before installing poly-ribbed belt, ensure that all assemblies with rollers and/or pulleys on which the belt must ride are tightly mounted. Movement of the poly-ribbed belt will not be controlled if travel is not correct over all rollers and pulleys.






Install poly-ribbed belt.
Remove M8 x 80 bolt from the tension roller.
Start engine and check belt travel.

NOTE: Vehicles with A/C are equipped with a double poly-ribbed belt.
