With Automatic Transmission
SEPARATING ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION:1. Support the engine and transmission as a unit.
Cover Plate To Be Removed:
2. Remove the three nuts holding the torque converter to the drive plate working through the bottom of the transmission. Remove the cover plate.
3. Remove the starter motor and remove the bolts that hold the transmission to the engine.
4. Separate the engine and transmission using care not to place any strain on the transmission mainshaft.
CAUTION: Be sure the drive plate separates cleanly from the torque converter without pulling the torque converter off its support. Once the engine and transmission are separated, install a bar across the open bellhousing to keep the torque converter from falling out.
REATTACHING ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION:
1. Check that the guide sleeves are installed in the engine block. If they are not, install them.
