Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

Fuel tank with attaching parts and fuel filter, removing and installing, Vehicles > 1999






1. Cap
Replace seal if damaged

2. Circlip
3. Rubber boot
4. Ground connection

5. O-ring
Replace if damaged

6. Breather valve
To remove, press safety catch lightly inward (arrow) and remove valve

7. Expansion tank
8. Return line
Color: blue
From fuel rail

9. Check valve
Arrow points in direction of flow

10. Screw cap, 60 Nm (44 ft lb)
Remove and install with 3217 ring nut spanner

11. Hose guide
12. Flange
Note installation position on tank Fig. 1

13. Supply hose
14. Return hose
15. Seal
Lubricate with gasoline to assemble
Replace if damaged

16. Fuel Pump (FP) -G6-
With fuel level sensor -G- (item -18-) in fuel pump module

17. Strainer
18. Fuel level sensor -G-
With Fuel Pump (FP) -G6- (item -16-) in fuel

19. Retaining strap
Note different lengths

20. Bracket
21. 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
22. Breather hose

23. Fuel tank
When removing, support with VAG 1383A

24. Clamp
25. Fuel filter
Arrow, "AUS" or "AUSLAUF" points in direction of flow

26. Supply line
Color: black
To fuel rail

27. 20 Nm (15 ft lb)

28. Bracket
For fuel filter

29. Rubber pad
30. Spring clip
31. Spacer
32. 10 Nm (7 ft lb)
33. Gravity valve
To remove, unclip valve and remove from filler pipe up and out
Checking valve:
Vertical = valve open
Tipped 45° = valve closed

34. Breather line
To Evaporation Emission (EVAP) canister
