Cylinder Head Assembly: Service Precautions
VALVE PISTON CONTACT- Use care when turning crankshaft or camshaft while toothed timing belt is loose or disconnected.
- Piston valve contact is possible and may cause internal engine damage.
- After installing new lifter(s) or cylinder head the engine MUST NOT be started for approx. 30 minutes.
- Hydraulic build up in the lifters MUST subside, otherwise the valves will strike the pistons.
CYLINDER HEAD REPLACEMENT
- When replacing the cylinder head, the engine coolant must be completely replaced.
- When installing a replacement cylinder head complete with camshaft, the contact surfaces between the hydraulic valve lifters and the cam lobes must be lubricated after installing the cylinder head.
- The plastic liners supplied on replacement cylinder heads for protection of open valves must not be removed until just before installing the cylinder head.
