Steering Wheel

Driver's Side Airbag Unit:




1 - Steering wheel
2 - Airbag unit connector
3 - Driver's side airbag unit
4 - Hex nut: Torque 50 Nm (37 ft lb)
5 - Socket-head bolts (2) Always replace: Torque 6.5 Nm (57 in lb)
6 - Lower trim
7 - Foam tube
8 - Harness connector
9 - Airbag Spiral Spring -F138

Requirement
- Driver's side airbag must be removed.

Removing
- Remove the lower trim -6- from steering column.
- Pull foam tube -7- off harness connector -8- and disconnect connector.
- Remove hex nut -4- and remove steering wheel from steering column.
- Tightening torque (nut -4-): 50 Nm (37 ft lb)

Note: Airbag spiral spring -9- remains on the steering wheel.

Installing
- Place steering wheel in position on splines, install nut and tighten: 50 Nm (37 ft lb)
- Connect connector for airbag unit below steering wheel.
- Install trim below steering column.
- Make sure that the airbag spiral spring connector sits in recess in trim.
- Connect connector in steering wheel to airbag unit.
- Install airbag unit.
NOTE: Always use new socket head bolts for airbag unit.

WARNING: Ensure that no one is in the vehicle when reconnecting the battery Ground (GND) strap.

- After installing the airbag steering wheel first switch ignition ON, then connect battery Ground (GND) strap.
