Igniting Passengers Side

WARNING
- DO NOT ignite the airbag units on vehicles that are being returned to service. When replacing airbag unit(s) that have not been deployed, return the old airbag unit(s) to the Warranty Parts Test Center.
- Ensure that there is no person inside the vehicle during this operation.
- Airbag units must be ignited from the outside with the airbag inside the vehicle and the doors closed.
- To conform with accident prevention regulations, airbag units must be rendered unusable by igniting them electrically before scrapping the vehicle. This is necessary because the airbag unit is a pyrotechnic device that may cause injuries if activated in an improper manner (e.g. scrapping methods using cutting torches).

Airbag Disarming - Safety Procedures/Precautions:

- Remove shelf on front passengers side.
- Unclip and separate connection.
- Cut off airbag unit connector and connect to VAG 1821 airbag igniter.
- Run airbag igniter cables through door gap toward front of vehicle and connect to external battery.
- Minimum distance from vehicle is 10 meters (33 ft).
- Activate airbag unit.
- Dispose of airbag unit as scrap.
