These pages contain instructions for installing Volkswagen CD changers into 1998 models equipped with Factory installed radios as listed.





"Premium"
CD installation into a vehicle with "Premium" radio system, requires CD kit as listed:

For vehicles equipped with Premium radio systems, CD changer units may be installed over the carpet (All references to cutting carpet DO NOT apply) using instructions in Technical Bulletin 91-96-5 dated Dec 15, 1996.





"Sound System"
CD installation into a vehicle with "Sound System" requires the following:

Note:

^ Some m.y 1998 vehicles equipped with "Sound System" were not factory equipped with CD-prep. These vehicles will also require a CD changer cable Part No:

1HM 035 592F (Golf/Cabrio)
1HM 035 592E (Jetta)

^ When inspecting for CD-Prep, check the CD changer cable end connector at the radio (requires radio removal). If the connector is inserted into the radio the CD changer cable is correct.

If the connector cannot be installed in the radio:

- Install a new CD changer cable as listed above, using instructions.

CAUTION:
Part numbers are for reference only. Always check with your Parts Dept. for the latest parts in formation.

Service
For vehicles equipped with "Sound System", CD changer should be installed according to this bulletin.
