Rear Axle Components Removing and Installing








ABS system rear axle components, (four wheel drive), removing and installing
1. Drive axle with rotor
- Check rotor for damage and cleanliness. Refer to Rear axle wheel speed sensor (vehicles with four wheel drive), removing and installing.
- If rotor is damaged, replace outer constant velocity joint.
- Outer constant velocity joint is supplied with rotor as replacement part
2. ABS wheel speed sensor
- Before inserting sensor, clean mounting hole inner surfaces
- Replacing
3. Sealing sleeve
4. Clamping sleeve
- Always replace
- Left and right identical
- Before installing in wheel housing, coat all around with brake cylinder paste
- Push into wheel bearing housing onto stop
5. Wheel bearing/hub
6. Hex bolt
- Always replace after removing. Vehicle must be on the ground when tightening. Tightening torque:
110 Nm (81 ft. lbs.) and turn 180° further

Removing





Special tools required

- Remove rear head restraints.
- Remove complete rear seat bench.





- Remove screws from side trim (arrows).
- Remove screw from side trim (arrow).
- Lift side trim and open cable tie behind trim.





- Disconnect wheel speed sensor wiring connections and push out grommet (arrow).
- Loosen wheel bolts.
- Raise vehicle.
- Remove wheel.
- Pull ABS wheel speed sensor from wheel bearing housing.





- Unclip wheel speed sensor wiring from retainers (arrows).





- Remove (unscrew) retainer -1- from wheel speed sensor wire (arrows).

Installing
- Before installing new wheel speed sensor replace clamping sleeve.
- Grease wheel speed sensor seal all around with brake cylinder paste.
- Push wheel speed sensor into wheel bearing housing by hand.

Rear axle rotor, checking or removing and installing
- Raise vehicle.
- Remove wheel.
- Pull wheel speed sensor out of wheel bearing housing.
- Check rotor for damage and cleanliness

Note:
- If rotor is damaged or dirty remove drive axle. If damaged replace outer constant velocity joint with rotor.
- Outer constant velocity joint is supplied with rotor as a replacement part.
