Idle speed, adaptation

NOTE:

Under exceptional circumstances e.g. customer complaints such as droning noises, vibrations during idle, etc,, it is permitted to slightly adjust the idle speed. You must first ensure, however; that the idle speed is nut outside of it's specified range. If it is outside the tolerance range, it is also possible that the vehicle could fail the next emissions test.

Special tools, testers, measuring instruments and auxiliary items required

- VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool with VAG 1551/3B adaptor cable

Test conditions

- No DTC's stored in DTC memory
- Engine Coolant Temperature must be 85 °C minimum See Display group 04, Display zone 3

Work sequence

- Connect VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool.
- Start engine and let idle
- Press 0 and 1 buttons to select "Address word" 01 "Engine electronics"

Display will appear as shown

Rapid data transfer HELP

- Press 1 and 1 buttons to select "Login procedure"
- Press Q button to enter input Display will appear as shown

Login procedure HELP

- Press 0, 1, 2, 8 and 3 buttons to select Login code 01283
- Press Q button to enter input

Data transfer fault

- Switch OFF ignition and repeat procedure.

- Press buttons 1 and 0 for the "Adaption" function
- Press Q button to enter input Display will appear as shown

Adaption
Feed in channel number XX

- Press 0 and 1 buttons to select channel 1
- Press Q button to enter input Display will appear as shown

Channel 1 Adaption xxx ->

- Change the specified speed in steps of 10 rpm with the following buttons:

VAG 1551: buttons 1 and 3
VAG 1552: buttons Uparrow and downarrow

Display will appear as shown

NOTE:

- A value of 728 (equates to a specified speed of 860 rpm) is set by the factory in field Adaption.
- Specified speed See Display group 50, Display zone 2.
- Idle speed must not be adjusted outside of the permissible speed range.

- Press Q button to enter input Display will appear as shown

Store amended figure?

- Press Q button to enter input Display will appear as shown

- Conclude adaption by pressing -> button.
- Press 0 and 6 buttons to select Function 06: "End data transfer"
- Press Q button to enter input
- Switch OFF ignition.
