Checking requirements
- Speedometer OK, checking:
NOTE: The vehicle must be driven to check the vehicle speed signal, and requires a second technician.
WARNING! Secure Scan Tool to rear seat and operate from this position using a second technician
Test sequence
- Connect VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool. Scan Tool Testing and Procedures
- Start engine and let idle
- Press 0 and 1 buttons to select Address word 01: "Engine electronics"

Rapid data transfer HELP
Select function XX
- Press 0 and 8 buttons to select Function 08: "Read measuring value block"
- Press 0 button to enter input
Display will appear as shown
Read measuring value block HELP
Input display group number XXX
- Press 0, 0 and 6 buttons to select "Display group 6"
- Press Q button to enter input
- Make a test drive and compare value in display 2 (2nd person required) using the tachometer indicator
Specification display zone 1: Approximately road speed.

- Press -> button.
- Press 0 and 6 buttons to select Function 06: "End output"
- Press Q button to enter input
If no speed is indicated:
- Connect VAG 1598/22 Test Box to ECM harness connector.
- Connect VAG 1527B Voltage tester between socket 1 (Ground) and socket 43 (road speed signal).
- Switch ON ignition and rotate drivers front wheel by hand.
- Diode test lamp must flash approximately four times per wheel revolution.
NOTE: If necessary, hold the right front wheel to prevent it from turning.
- If Voltage tester does not flash, check wiring for open/short circuit between ECM connector terminal 43 and instrument cluster.

If DTC memory has been erased
- Create Readiness code. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes
