Fuel Tank: Service and Repair
Special tools, workshop equipment, testers, measuring instruments and auxiliary items required
^ VAG 1331 Torque wrench 5 to 50 Nm (3.7 to 37 ft. lbs.)
^ VAG 1383 A Engine/transmission jack
Removing
- Note safety precautions before starting work
CAUTION: Obtain the radio anti-theft code from customer before disconnecting battery ground wire.
- Ensure that ignition is switched OFF then disconnect battery Ground wire
- Remove right rear wheel housing liner
- Drain fuel tank, clean fuel filler neck and surrounding area.
- Remove mounting bolts and tank flap unit with splash shield.
- Remove mounting bolts on filler neck.
- Remove tensioning strap. While supporting fuel tank using VAG 1383A engine/transmission jack.
- Lower tank using VAG 1383A jack just enough to allow supply/return lines and fuel gauge sensor connector to be disconnected.
- Unclip supply and return lines from fuel tank.
- Lower fuel tank.
Installing
Install in reverse order but note following:
^ Route breather hose kink free.
^ Fuel hoses must be installed kink-free.
^ Secure fuel hoses with screw clamps.
^ Do not interchange the supply and return hoses (return hose blue or blue markings, supply hose black).
^ Clip supply and return line onto fuel tank.
