Fuel Supply System Components, Removing And Installing
Notes:
^ Hose connections are secured with either screw or spring-type clips.
^ Always replace clamp style clips with screw or spring-type clips.
Observe all Service Precautions.
1. Sealing cap
2. Seal
- Replace if damaged
3. Securing screw
4. Gravity/overflow valve
- To remove valve: unclip upward out of support
- Check valve for through-flow valve vertical: open, valve tilted 45°: closed
5. Angle piece
6. 0-ring
- Replace if damaged
7. Vent valve
- To remove valve unclip out of side support
- Before installing remove sealing cap (item 1)

8. Ground connection
9. Supply line
^ to fuel filter (item 5)
^ Clipped onto fuel tank
- Ensure it is securely seated
^ Black
10. Return line
^ from fuel filter, item 12
^ Clipped onto fuel tank
- Ensure it is securely seated
^ Blue or blue markings
11. Union nut
- Remove and install with 3217
12. 4-pin harness connector
^ Black
13. Fuel gauge sensor
- Note installed position on fuel tank, Fig. 1
14. Sealing ring
- Replace if damaged
- Coat with fuel when installing
15. Vent line
- Ensure it is securely seated
16. 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
17. Fuel tank
- Support with VAG 1383 A engine/transmission jack when removing
18. Mounting strap
- Note differing length
19. Bracket
^ for mounting straps
20. 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.)
21. Tank flap unit
^ with splash shield

Notes:
^ Marking on sensor - 1- must align with marking on fuel tank -2-.
^ After installing fuel gauge sensor; ensure that supply and return lines are securely clipped to the fuel tank.
