Front final drive gasket, replacing
Removing
- Remove front exhaust pipe. Refer to Exhaust System.
- Remove protective plate.





- Remove bolts -1- to -14- on front axle drive housing cover.
- Place transmission jack VAG 1383 A with plate 1359/2 in position.

CAUTION: Carefully remove front final drive housing cover from transmission housing. Otherwise gears can drop out of transmission.
Gears which have been dropped on the floor must not be used again. If this happens, the transmission must be replaced.

- Lift up front axle drive housing cover.

CAUTION: Do not remove front final drive gears. Secure gears to prevent them from dropping out.
If gears are taken out, they must be reinstalled with markings facing out (away from transmission).

Installing





- Before installing, ensure dowel sleeve -A- is correctly located..
Tightening sequence:
^ Stage 1: tighten bolts -1-, -2- and -3- hand-tight.
^ Stage 2: tighten bolts -1- to -14- to specified torques in the sequence indicated.
- Fill with ATF, then check ATF level and top up. Differential Fluid - A/T
