1999 Model Volkswagen Cabrio Replace Emissions Label

Dear Volkswagen Dealer:

This is to inform you of the initiation of an emissions recall campaign involving some 1999 model Volkswagen Cabrio vehicles. The recall involves replacement of the emissions label.

Defect Description

The emissions label affixed to the affected vehicles contains incorrect engine family information.





Vehicle Identification Number Range
The vehicles affected by this recall are within the following vehicle identification number range.

Please note that the above VINs represent the lowest and highest serial numbers of affected vehicles. Use of the OTIS campaign inquiry system will allow you to determine whether or not a particular vehicle, within the above VIN range, requires the corrective work.

Note:
Volkswagen will not reimburse under this recall any duplicate recall repair work or a repair outside the VIN range.

Mailing/Remedial Action

Volkswagen of America, Inc. will notify all known owners of affected vehicles directly by first class mail on or about February 14, 2000. Each notification package will include a new emissions label, installation instructions and a postage-paid "Owner Reply Card" (copy included in circular). Owners will be asked to affix the label themselves or seek the help of an authorized Volkswagen dealer. The self-addressed "Owner Reply Card" is used to confirm that the label replacement has been completed. A copy of the owner notification letter and Owner Reply Card is enclosed for your information.

Label Supply

Replacement labels, part number 037 010 240P, which will not be available through parts channels, will be supplied to owners together with the notification letter. However, a small supply of these labels will be mailed to you, prior to owner notification, to accommodate cases where owners have failed to supply the new label to you.

Installation Instructions





Affix Emissions label as follows:

^ Open engine hood

^ Locate emissions label - see illustration

^ Thoroughly clean the present label using a wet cloth and regular dishwashing solution; then rinse and dry

^ Peel protective backing off of new label, part number 037 010 240P

^ Affix new label over existing label

^ Close hood
