LATCH System "Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren", installing/retro-Installing

LATCH, definition
LATCH system for "Lower Anchors and tethers for CHildren" consists of combination of rear upper tethers and rear lower anchors used to secure a child restraint.

Vehicles with production date 09.00 (09/00) and later (see certification label on drivers side B-pillar - arrow - are provided with guidance fixtures and must be checked for installation during Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI).

Vehicles manufactured as of January 2001 are equipped with buttons (at - arrows -) to identify rear lower anchor points.

NOTE: LATCH Guidance Fixtures announced in Technical Bulletins Group 00 Number 00-06 and 00-07) are no longer required or supplied on vehicles equipped with buttons.

Rear upper tethers

Guide rear upper tether strap under rear seat head restraints through guide as shown, and route to tether anchors in luggage compartment.

Rear lower anchors
Illustration shows location of rear lower anchors for rear seat.

NOTE:
- Rear lower anchors secure child restraint in seat without using vehicles safety belts. Anchors provide a secure and easy-to-use attachment and minimize possibility of improper child restraint installation.
- Rear lower anchor attachment points are located between rear seat back and rear seat cushion for outboard seating positions.
- There is no rear middle seating position.
