Special Tools And Equipment
^ 3373 Lever for conductor strip
^ VAG 1331 Torque wrench or equivalent
Caution!
^ Do not run engine or tow vehicle with oil pan removed or when there is no ATF in transmission.
Note:
^ The valve body or conductor strip can be removed with the transmission installed.
^ The conductor strip can be removed individually.
^ After re-installing oil pan, fill with ATF.
^ Always replace a valve body which is fouled or inoperative.
1. Plug
^ Always replace seal refer to Fig. 2
^ Checking ATF level and topping-up.
2. Overflow pipe
^ Remove to drain ATF refer to Fig. 1
^ Screw in to stop
^ ATF level, checking and topping-up
3. Oil pan
4. Bolt
^ 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.)
5. Magnet
^ Insert in oil pan recess
6. Spacer bushing
^ Press into gasket
7. Gasket
^ Always replace
^ Press spacer bushings into gasket

^ Remove before removing and installing free wheel
^ Insert plug so jug is located in groove on housing refer to Fig. 5
^ Place O-rings on sealing plug

21. Operating rod for manual selector valve
^ Unhooking refer to Fig. 4
^ Install with stepped side facing manual selector valve refer to Fig. 7

Fig. 1 ATF, draining
- Place drain pan under transmission.
- Remove plug -2-.
- Remove overflow pipe -1- and allow ATF to drain.
- Install (screw) overflow pipe in to stop.

- Cut open seal (arrow) with side cutters, always replace seal.
- After repairs install new seal on plug and screw in hand-tight when filling with ATF.
- Fill with 3 liters (3.16 qt.) ATF, then check ATF level and top-up.

- Place 3373 on stop under solenoid valve plug.
- Remove plug with 3373 in direction of arrow.
- Remove bolt -1 -.

When removing valve body manual selector valve -1- remains in valve body.
- Shift selector lever/shaft into "1".
- Pull manual selector valve out until it is just possible to unhook operating rod -2-.
- Secure manual selector valve so that it cannot fall out.

Remove sealing plug from housing before removing and installing free wheel, otherwise sealing plug and O-ring will be damaged.
- Install O-rings on sealing plug.
- Insert sealing plug in hole in transmission housing (arrow).

Code letters are stamped on a metal tab. Metal tab must remain on valve body.

- Turn manual selector valve -1-so shoulder faces operating rod.
- Guide operating rod -2- with manual selector in valve body.

- Move selector shaft to "P".
- Push operating rod with manual selector valve in valve body to stop (direction of arrow) and tighten bolt to 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.).
Note:
^ Manual selector valve must always be resting against stop. Counter-hold in direction of arrow when tightening bolt.
^ Always replace bolt and manual selector valve retaining clip.

- Route conductor strip as illustrated, ensure it does not kink or twist when installing.
Fig. 10 ATF screen, installing
- Before installing ATF screen insert seal in valve body.
- Firmly press ATF screen on valve body.

- Connect conductor strip connector to lower retainer.
- Install upper retainer with recess (arrow) onto connector tab.
- Tighten bolt to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
