Checking Anti-Theft Alarm System
1. The anti-theft alarm system has a visual and an audible alarm. If the alarm system is triggered ('vehicle broken into), the emergency flashers will flash, the alarm horn will sound and the starter will be deactivated. The alarm system monitors and protects the following:
- Engine compartment (hood)
- Luggage compartment (trunk lid/rear hatch)
- All doors
- Radio
- Ignition (starter lockout, terminals 15 and 50)
The alarm system has a self-diagnostic feature which checks the operation of its components and wiring. When the alarm system is armed and all components are functional, the alarm system indicator light (LED) will illuminate after either front door is locked with a key.
2. To arm the system, ensure that hood trunk lid and all doors are closed. Insert key into door lock, turn to LOCKED position and hold approx. 1/2 second until the LED in the door lights up.
When the system is first armed, the LED flashes 50% ON and 50% OFF for the first 30 seconds. During this time a protected component can still be opened and the alarm will not be triggered. After 30 seconds the LED converts to flashing 5% ON and 95 % OFF and the system becomes fully armed. If the alarm is armed for more than 24 hours, the LED switches OFF completely, but the alarm remains operational.
3. The alarm system can be partially deactivated. For example, if the trunk lid/rear hatch is opened with the key, the other protected components remain armed. When the trunk lid/hatch is closed again, the alarm system begins a new arming cycle.
