Service

Airbag system inspection must be performed as a part of every annual lubrication and maintenance service.

Airbag system inspection should also be done for vehicles brought in by owners in accordance with air bag inspection schedules previously specified in their vehicle owner's manual or vehicle air bag maintenance label.

^ Airbag system inspection consists of visual checks only.

^ No parts are routinely replaced as part of airbag maintenance on any model.

Airbag system inspection

- Ensure customer is aware that adhesive (from tape, stickers, etc.) and other residues on airbag covers or unauthorized work on airbag units can affect the airbag function.

- Visually inspect all deployment doors (predetermined break points) of the airbag units for crack formation or mechanical damage. If cracked or damaged, airbag unit must be replaced.

- Conduct a visual function check of the Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp(s) -K75- / -K90-.

^ The Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp -K75- must light for approx. 3 seconds when the ignition is switched ON. The Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp -K75- must switch off after approx. 3 seconds and then not light again or flicker on.

^ On Cabriolet vehicles equipped with two lamps, -K75- & -K90-, the Airbag Control Light -K75- must light for approx. 5 to 8 seconds when the ignition is switched ON and then not light again or flicker on. Airbag Warning Light -K90- must not light or flicker on.

If the warning light(s) do not function as listed above, repairs to the airbag system are required.
