Emissions - MIL ON/DTC's P0410/P0411/P1423 Set

Technical Background
Malfunction Indicator light (MIL) is ON, Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) P0410, P0411 or P1423 are stored in DTC memory.

May be caused by a cracked or broken (braided cloth-covered) vacuum hose(s) due to temperature variations.

The most common DTCs associated with broken or cracked vacuum hoses are P0410, P0411, or P1423.

Production Solution





Engine number "Code letters" and "Serial number" can be found on the front of the engine near the engine/transmission joint (engine code AEG shown).

Engine/serial number may also be located on a label on the cylinder head cover and vehicle data plate.

Vacuum hose material was changed with the introduction of engine codes AVH and AZG.

Service
- Connect VAS 5051 or VAS 5052.
- Check for DTC P0410, P0411, or P1423 stored in DTC memory.
- Remove upper engine cover.





- Inspect for damaged vacuum hoses at Secondary air inlet valve -2- to combi valve -20- and vacuum hose -3- from secondary air inlet valve -2- to brake booster vacuum check valve.
- If damaged, replace vacuum hoses from Secondary air inlet valve -2- to combi valve -20- and vacuum hose -3- from secondary air inlet valve -2- to brake booster vacuum check valve with hose from repair kit. See Required Parts and Tools.

Repair kit contains one (1) vacuum hose, approximately 3.3 feet long (cut and adjust to required length).

- Reinstall upper engine cover.
- Erase any stored DTCs using VAS 5051 or VAS 5052.
