Needle Lift Sensor
The Needle Lift sensor signal determines start of injection. If it fails, start of injection switches to open-loop control based on engine speed and load. During normal operation, start of injection is controlled in a closed-loop based on engine speed, load and temperature.Special Tools, Testers And Auxiliary Items:
- Test Box VAG 1598/18
- Hand multimeter VAG 1526 or multimeter VAG 1715
- VW 1594 adaptor kit
- Wiring diagram
Test Sequence:
- Switch OFF ignition
- Disconnect connector -1- for Needle Lift sensor
- Measure resistance between connector terminals
Specification: 80 to 120 Ohms
If specification not obtained:
- Replace cyl. 3 injector with Needle Lift sensor G80
- Display the readiness code
If DTC memory was erased:
- Create readiness code again
If specification obtained:
- Connect Test Box VAG 1598/18 to ECM harness connector
- Check wiring for open circuit between Test Box and connector using wiring diagram:
terminal 1 + socket 12
terminal 2 + socket 11
Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ohms
- Also check wires for shorting to one another:
- Specification: Infinite Ohms
If wiring OK:
- Replace Diesel direct injection system ECM J248
- Display the readiness code
If DTC memory was erased:
- Create readiness code again
