REMOVE B-PILLAR TRIM COVER MAT
Dear Volkswagen Dealer:
This is to inform you of a voluntary safety recall campaign of some early 1999 model year Volkswagen New Golf (A4) and New Jetta (A4) vehicles. This recall involves removal of the lower B-pillar trim cover matting material.
Problem Description
Volkswagen has determined that the matting material inside the B-pillar's trim cover could ignite in the event of a frontal collision.
Vehicle Identification Number Range
The vehicles affected by the are within the following vehicle identification number ranges:
Please note that the above VINs represent the lowest and highest serial numbers of affected vehicles. Use of the V-Crest campaign injury system will allow you to determine whether or not a particular vehicle, within the above vin ranges, requires the corrective work.
NOTE:
Volkswagen will not reimburse under this recall action any duplicate recall repair work or a repair outside the VIN range.
Dealer Inventory Vehicles
It is imperative that any vehicle in dealer inventory and showing the UF code in the V-Crest inquiry system is CORRECTED PRIOR TO RETAIL SALE.
IMPORTANT:
Please Provide A Copy To All Personnel With Recall-Related Responsibilities!
Remedial Action
Completely remove the matting material located inside the left and right side lower B-pillar trim covers.
Owner Notification Mailing
Volkswagen of America, Inc. will mail notification letters to all known owners of affected vehicles on February 9, 1999.
Vehicle Allocation
Enclosed with this circular is a computer list containing information of vehicles either sold by your dealership or presently in your dealer inventory.
