Service

For all vehicles within the New Vehicle Limited Warranty:

For any repairs to the main wiring harness, the following steps must be taken:

^ Determine the cause, location and extent of damage in the harness. Always use VAG 1551 and VAG 1598 where applicable in conjunction with the applicable Repair Manual and Wiring Diagram.

^ Determine if damage can be repaired using the VAS 1978 repair kit or if a partial wire harness can be utilized for the repair.

If your dealership determines that the wiring harness cannot be repaired and a complete harness replacement is necessary:

For damage that is due to a defect in material or workmanship from the manufacturer:

- Do not order a harness, contact your OTS for further instructions.

For damage that is not due to a defect in material or workmanship from the manufacturer (i.e. theft, vandalism, accident damage, outside influence etc.):

- Ensure that the correct harness will be ordered for the specific vehicle by including the Vehicle identification number (VIN) and the PKN number on the parts Red Order form.

^ The VIN can be found on the driver's side B-pillar, and at the top of the Instrument Panel left front corner beneath the windshield.

^ The PKN No. can be found on the vehicle information label (arrow) which is located on the left front long member above the horns.

It will be necessary to lift the vehicle on a hoist and use a mirror (1) to read the PKN # on the vehicle information label.

The PKN # "a" consists of seven (7) digits followed by an equal (=) sign.
