Airbag, Steering Wheel and Steering Column

WARNING: Airbags and related equipment (e.g. steering wheel) must only be disassembled, assembled and repaired by trained Volkswagen Service Department personnel.
- Before working on any airbag, steering wheel or steering column components, first always disconnect the battery.
- Observe all airbag system Warnings and Cautions.
- Make sure that the passenger compartment is not occupied before connecting the battery Ground (GND) strap.

CAUTION: Before disconnecting the battery, determine the correct coding for the anti-theft radio.

WARNING:
- Do not re-use any fasteners that are worn or deformed in normal use.
- Some fasteners are designed to be used only once, and are unreliable and may fail if used a second time. This includes, but is not limited to, nuts, bolts, washers, circlips and cotter pins. Always follow the recommendations in this data-replace these fasteners with new parts where indicated, and any other time it is deemed necessary by inspection.
