With Manufacturer's Scan Tool
Cruise control system, checking
Cruise Control System, apart from control switches, has no components of its own. All functions are provided by the Fuel injection system.

- VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool using VAG 1551/3 Adapter cable
- VAG 1598/22 Test Box (MY 1999)
- VAG 1598/31 Test Box (from MY 2000)
- Fluke 83 multimeter
- VW 1594 Adapter kit
- Wiring diagram
Test sequence
- Connect VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool. Refer to "Scan Tool Testing/Scan Tool Connecting and Initial Checks" Testing and Inspection
- Start engine and let idle.
- Press 0 and 1 buttons to select Address word 01: "Engine electronics"

- Activate Cruise Control System.
Vehicles with automatic transmission only
- Take a test drive where vehicle reaches at least 30 km/h (approx. 19 mph) one time.
- Switch OFF engine and leave selector lever in position 2, 3 or D.
- Apply hand brake.
NOTE:
- For vehicles with automatic transmissions; cruise control switch Voltage supply first becomes available when the vehicle exceeds a speed of 30 km/h (approx. 19 mph) with the Range selector lever in position 2 3 or D.
- Voltage supply is also available during idle as long as a driving Range other than 1 or R is selected.

- Connect VAG 1598/22 (or 1598/31) Test Box to ECM wiring harness.
- Check wiring for open/short circuits between the Engine Control Module and the Cruise Control System switches using Wiring diagram.
