Lock Assembly Removal
Window regulators, door lock and radio speaker are secured to the assembly carrier.
The door lock can only be removed in conjunction with the assembly carrier
The assembly carrier can only be removed when the window clamping brackets of the window regulator are unscrewed. To do this lower door window to the height of assembly holes in assembly carrier and loosen clamping brackets.
If electrical windows cannot be lowered then the cause of the malfuction must be determined first.
To do this, check convenience locking systems DTC memory (address word 46) with VAG 1551 scan tool.

Note: When replacing door lock ensure that the cover (item -4-, on Assembly Overview) is reinstalled or retrofitted on the door lock. Door Handle & Door Lock, Assembly Overview
Removing
(All Vehicles)
- Remove front door trim, refer to Door Panel - Service and Repair - Procedures Service and Repair
- Removing lock cylinder housing, refer to Door Lock Cylinder - Service and Repair - Procedures Service and Repair
- Unclip clip -1-from door handle.
- Pry out cover cap -1-.
Vehicles With Electrically Operated Windows
Note: If motors fail, proceed as follows
- Remove bolts -1- (Qty. 4).
- Remove housing -2- from window motor.
Bosch Electric Window Regulator Motor
- Remove armature -1- from window regulator motor -arrow-.
- Window can now be moved down to height of assembly holes in assembly carrier.
NOTE: The motor must not be reused.
Siemens Power Window Regulator Motor
- Remove bolts -1- (Qty. 4).
- Remove housing -2- from window motor.
NOTE: The motor must not be reused.
- Window can be lowered to height of assembly holes by turning armature -1-.
All Vehicles
- Lower door window until bolts are accessible.
- Loosen bolts -2- and press clamps apart.
- Move window up and secure in position (e.g. with adhesive tape).
- Disconnect all connections -arrows-.
- Pry out cover cap -3-.
- Remove bolts -2- torque: 20 Nm (15 ft lb)
- Remove bolts -arrows-.
- Remove top from assembly carrier off door, lift and remove from door toward hinges.
- Turn assembly carrier and disconnect connector from door lock.
- Unclip clips for electrical cables on back of assembly carrier.
- Drive out clips -1- with a drift.
- Unclip cable -2- from clip -1-.
- Pry door lock -4- with assembly aid off assembly carrier using a screwdriver -3-.
NOTE: Retaining bracket is not part of items supplied with door lock, secured to door lock with bolt and pop rivet.
- Unclip securing rod -1-. Turn door lock in direction of arrow to assist un-clipping rod.
- Unclip cable -2-.
- Turn cable nipple 90° and remove from eye.
Installing
Note: When replacing door lock ensure that the cover (item -4-, on Assembly Overview) is reinstalled or retrofitted on the door lock. Door Handle & Door Lock, Assembly Overview
- Insert assembly carrier in door.
- Install bolts and lighten in prescribed sequence 8 Nm (71 in lb).
- Loosen clamps, push window -1- in window guides -arrow- and tighten clamp with bolts -2- 10 Nm (7 ft lb)
Install remainder in reverse sequence.
Then perform functional check.
