- Engine coolant temperature at least 85 °C (185 °F) See VAG1551 scan tool function 08, display group 004, display field 3
Checking, function
- Connect VAG1551 or VAG1552 scan to( and press buttons -0- and -1- to insert "Engine Electronics" address word 01 (engine running at idle), Refer to "Scan Tool Testing/Scan Tool Connecting and Initial Checks/Connecting VAG1551/VAG1552 Scan Tool" under "Engine", Testing and Inspection

- Increase engine speed to 1800-2200 RPM.
- Maintain engine speed at 1800-2200 RPM and compare display with specified values for O2S aging (before TWC) in display fields 3 and 4).
NOTE: To be sure that the temperature is within the specified range, the specified RPM has to be maintained for at least 1 minute Observe O2S test status in display field 4.
Display Group 34:
If the displayed values are OK:
- Press -> button.
- Press buttons -0- and -6- to select "End Output" function 06, and press -Q- button to confirm input.
- Switch ignition off.
Continuation
If displayed value is NOT OK (not as specified):
- Road test to condition oxygen sensor (eliminate possible contamination) and repeat test.

When driving or riding in an airbag-equipped vehicle, NEVER hold scan tool or other test equipment in your hands or lap while in motion. Objects between you and airbag increase the risk of injury in an accident.
During a test drive in an airbag-equipped vehicle, test equipment must always be fastened to and operated from the rear seat by a second technician.
If displayed value is still NOT OK:
- Replace HO2S -G39-
- Check readiness code. If Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory has been erased, or ECM was disconnected, generate new readiness code. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes
