Front Bumper: Service and Repair

Front bumper Assembly overview
The illustration shows either a Golf or Jetta bumper. The bumpers differ from each other only in style.

1- Cover
Material: PP/EPDM

2- Bolt
Qty. 7
6.5 Nm (57 in. lb)

3- Guide
To remove/install bumper, pull out or push in parallel to guides at left and right

4- Screw
Qty. 4
2 Nm (17 in. lb)

5- Speed nut
Qty. 4 per side

6- Cover for headlight washer
Cover is part of headlight washer

7- Air guide grille
Clipped to cover


Bumper cover, removing and installing

- Separate release lever from hood lock
- Remove radiator grille
- Unclip and remove headlight washer covers from cover -6-.
- Loosen cover -1- in area of wheel-house opening
- Unclip outer air guide grilles 7
- Remove screws -2-.
- Remove guides -3- from right and left sides.
- Disconnect wiring from temperature sensor.

Release lever, removing

- Swing clip -2- upward.



- Pull release lever -1- with a screwdriver -3- and remove from hood lock.
- Pull release lever -1- with guide out of lock carrier.
