With Manufacturer's Scan Tool
Scan Tool, Connecting
All functions which have been previously performed using Scan Tool (ST) V.A.G 1551 or Scan Tool (ST) V.A.G 1552 can also be performed with new Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in operating mode "Vehicle Self-Diagnosis".

Test requirements:
- All fuses OK according to wiring diagram.
- Battery voltage OK (at least 9 volts).
With ignition switched off, connect Scan Tool (ST) V.A.G 1551 with diagnostic cable V.A.G 1551/1 to Data Link Connector (DLC) as follows:
- Unclip cover for diagnostic connections under heater/ventilation controls.
- First, connect black connector of V.A.G 1551/1 to black diagnostic connector in vehicle (voltage supply).

1- Rapid data transfer

VAG On Board Diagnostic HELP
2- Blink code output
- Displayed alternately.
NOTE: If display remains blank, do not connect white connector. In this case, check voltage supply for Scan Tool (ST) V.A.G 1551 according to wiring diagram.
- Connect white connector of Scan Tool (ST) V.A.G 1551 to white Data Link Connector in vehicle. blue connector is not required.

Test requirements:
- All fuses OK according to wiring diagram.
- Battery voltage at least 9 volts.
- Remove ashtray and slide cover for Data Link Connector (DLC) toward left - arrow -.
- With ignition switched off, connect scan tool Scan Tool (ST) V.A.G 1551 with diagnostic wire V.A.G 1551/3

- Display will show actual software version installed (will be shown briefly in display).

NOTE:
- If nothing appears on display, check voltage supply for Scan Tool (ST) V.A.G 1551 according to wiring diagram Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting Component Locations
- Depending on program, additional operating information can be printed out by pressing HELP button of V.A.G 1551.
- --> button is used for advancing through program sequence.
- PRINT button is used for switching on printer (lamp in button illuminates).
address word "00" initiates automatic test sequence, i.e. it results in a DTC check on all OBD capable systems in vehicle via rapid data transfer.
