Oxygen sensor 1 aging, checking
Special tools and equipment
- V.A.G1551 Scan Tool (ST) or VAG1552 mobile scan tool with VAG1551/3 adapter cable
- VAG1788/10 engine speed adjuster
Test conditions
- Coolant temperature at least 85°C. See display group 04, display field 3
Functional check
- Connect VAG1551 (VAG1552) Scan Tool (ST). [1][2]Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
- Switch ignition on and press buttons -0- and -1- to insert "Engine Electronics" address word 01. Engine must be running at idle when performing this step.

- Set engine speed at 2200-2800 RPM using VAG1788/10 engine speed adjuster.
- Maintain engine speed at 2200-2800 RPM until display in display field 4 jumps from "Test OFF" to "Test ON."
The Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) temperature in display field 2 at least 352.0°C.
- Check cycle duration in display field 3.
- Specified value: max. 2.20 seconds
- Maintain speed at to 2200-2800 RPM until specified value "B1-P1 OK" appears in display field 4.
Display Group 34:
If the specified values are obtained:
- Press -> button.
- Press buttons -0- and -6- to select "End Output" function 06 and press -Q- button to confirm input.
- Turn off ignition.
Continuation
If the specified values are not obtained:
- Perform road test in order to free oxygen sensor of possible residues and repeat test.

If the specified values are still not obtained:
- Replace Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) before Three Way Catalytic Converter.
- Check DTC memory. If necessary, repair any malfunctions and erase DTC memory.
