Function
The sensors -G79- and -G185- are located at the accelerator pedal and communicate the driver's intention to the engine control module. Each sensor works independently. Both sensors are located in one housing.
Checking conditions
- All fuses must be OK.
- Battery voltage must be 11.5 V minimum.
Checking
Observe safety precautions.
- Connect V.A.G 1551 Scan Tool ((V.A.G 1552) and select "01" for engine control module. Ignition must be switched on:
display will appear as shown
Rapid Data Transfer HELP
Select Function XX
- Push keys 0 and 8 for functions "Measured value block" and press "Q" key.
display will appear as shown:
Read measured value block HELP
Input display group number XXX
- Press keys 0, 6 and 2 for display group "62" and press "Q". display will appear as shown: (1 - 4 = display field)
Read measured value block 62 ->
1 2 3 4
- Check reading of sensor 1 -G79- at idling stop in display field 3
- Specification: 12 to 97 %
- Check reading of sensor 2 -G185- at idling stop in display field 4
- Specification: 4 to 50 %
NOTE: The engine control module calculates voltage values of the angle sensor in percent, based on 5 Volts, and shows this percentage (5 Volts supply voltage is equivalent to 100%).
- Push accelerator down slowly until reaching Wide Open Throttle position and watch percentage in display fields 3 and 4 during this process:
- Percentage in display 3 must increase constantly. The tolerance range of 12 to 97% is not covered completely.
- Percentage in display 4 must increase constantly. The tolerance range of 4 to 50% is not covered completely.
NOTE: The value shown in dispay field 3 must always be approximately double the value shown in display field 4.
If values are different from those described:
- Check power supply voltage and wiring connections to throttle position sensor. Refer to "Power Supply and Cables Check", Power Supply and Cables Check
