Technical Background
When an aluminum oil pan becomes damaged, a new "hybrid" oil pan is available as a replacement. See Required Parts and Tools.
The suggested application is for vehicles with damaged oil pans due to outside influence, which is not covered by Warranty (damage from accidents, customer hitting obstructions, or damaged oil drain plug threads).
Production Solution
Hybrid oil pans (two-piece aluminum / steel assembly) may already be installed in some model year 2004 vehicles.

Tip:
When installing a hybrid oil pan, the oil pan guard -1- is no longer required and must not be installed during assembly.
