Malfunction Recognition and DTC Display
NOTE: The instrument cluster is installed in conjunction with vehicle equipment level, there are different versions:
- with digital clock and rev counter, or
- with rev counter and multi-function indicator display.
The instrument cluster is equipped with On Board Diagnostic (OBD) which makes troubleshooting easier.
1 If the control module recognizes a non repairable malfunction in the dash panel data memory control module for the:
- odometer
- odometer number (distance travelled number) (K number)
- or the speedometer calibration
then "dEF" appears in the trip recorder display. Replace instrument cluster. Service and Repair
2 If the instrument cluster control unit recognizes a malfunction and nothing is displayed on the trip recorder display, perform the following work before removing the instrument cluster:
- Check DTC memory using VAG1551 Scan Tool (ST).
- Read odometer and note values.
If the malfunction requires the instrument cluster to be replaced, the noted figures can be entered in the new instrument cluster.
