Troubleshooting Cruise Control
Function
Cruise control function on vehicles with engine code ALH are controlled entirely by the Diesel Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) Engine Control Module (ECM) -J248-. There is no separate control module for the cruise control.
The only additional components are the Cruise Control Switch (E45) and the Button for Cruise Control (set) (E227) in the turn signal switch stalk. These components can be checked with the following procedure.
In case of cruise control function complaints, the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) of the Diesel Direct Fuel Injection system must first be checked for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC).
Required for troubleshooting:
VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST) with cable VAG 1551/3
Multimeter Fluke 83
Test Box VW1598/18
Connector Test Kit VW1594
Valid wiring diagram
CAUTION!
DO NOT damage, enlarge or bend connector terminals or cavities by forcing probes into them when performing electrical checks. Always use connector test kit VW 1594 to make the necessary electrical connections.
