Cooling system components (engine side)
1. Hose to heat exchanger
^ Coolant hoses, connection diagram, Refer to Cooling System, Diagrams
2. 4-pin harness connector
^ Wiring cavities 1 and 3 for -G62- (Engine Code Motor AEG through MY 1999)
^ Terminals 1 and 3: gold plated (Engine Code AEG through MY 1999)
^ Wiring cavities 3 and 4 for -G62- (Engine Code AEG from MY 2000, AVH and AZG)
^ Terminals 3 and 4: gold plated (Engine Code AEG from MY 2000, AVH and AZG)
3. Engine Coolant Temperature sensor -G62
^ For Engine Control Module
^ With Engine Coolant Temperature gauge sensor -G2
^ Release cooling system pressure before removing
^ Checking:
Refer to Powertrain Management
4. 2-pin harness connector
^ Only for Engine Code AEG through MY 1 999
^ For vehicles with A/C only
5. A/C cut-out Thermal switch F163
^ Only for Engine Code AEG through MY 1 999
^ Vehicles with A/C only, otherwise a blind plug
6. Coolant pipe
^ Coolant hoses, connection diagram, Refer to Cooling System, diagrams
7. Retaining clip
^ Check securely seated
8. 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.)
9. Hose to expansion tank, lower
^ Coolant hoses, connection diagram, Refer to Cooling System, diagrams
10. Hose to upper radiator
^ Coolant hoses, connection diagram, Refer to Cooling System, diagrams
11. O-ring
^ Always replace
12. Connection
13. Hose from lower radiator
14. Oil cooler
15. Engine Coolant thermostat
^ Checking: heat-up thermostat in water
^ Opening starts @ approximately 86°C (187°F)
^ Opening ends @ approximately 102°C (216°F)
^ Opening lift: 7 mm (0.28 inch) minimum
^ Removing and installing, Refer to Thermostat, Service and Repair
16. Camshaft drive belt
^ Mark engine direction of rotation before removing
^ Check for wear
^ Do not kink
^ Removing, installing and tensioning, Refer to Camshaft Drive Belt, Removing, Installing and Tensioning
17. Coolant pump
^ Check shaft for ease of rotation
^ If damaged or leaking replace complete assembly
18. 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.)
19. Camshaft drive belt guard, rear
20. 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.)
21. Throttle Control Module
^ Heated by engine coolant
22. Hose to expansion tank, upper
^ Coolant hoses, connection diagram, Refer to Cooling System, Diagrams
23. O-ring
^ Replace if damaged
