Fuel Tank/Attachments/Fuel Filter, Removing and Installing







1 - Sealing cap
2 - Seal
- Replace if damaged
3 - Tank flap unit
- With rubber cup
4 - Securing screw
5 - Gravity valve
- To remove valve unclip upward out of support
- Check valve for flow:
vertical: open
valve tilted 45°: closed
6 - O-ring
- Replace if damaged
7 - Vent pipe
- Black
- Clipped onto side of fuel tank
- Check securely seated
- Secure with spring-type clips
- To EVAP canister See "Charge Air System Diagram", item 1. 8 - Vent valve
- To remove valve unclip sideways out of support
- Before installing remove sealing cap item 1
- Checking See Fig. 2.
9 - Ground connection
- Ensure securely seated
10 - Supply line
- Black
- Clipped onto side of fuel tank
- Ensure securely seated
- Secure with spring-type clips
- Between flange -item 14- and fuel filter -item 25-
11 - Return line
- Blue or with blue marking
- Clipped onto side of fuel tank
- Ensure securely seated
- Secure with spring-type clips
- From fuel return line on fuel rail
12 - Connector
- Black, 4-pin
- For fuel gauge sender -G- and Fuel Pump -G6-
13 - Union nut, 60 Nm
- Remove and install with spanner 3217
14 - Flange
- Note installation position on fuel tank See Fig. 1.
15 - Sender for fuel gauge -G-
- Clipped onto reservoir housing in fuel tank
16 - Supply line
- Ensure securely seated
- Between flange -item 14- and fuel delivery unit -item 17-
17 - Fuel delivery unit
- Removing and installing. Service and Repair
- Checking fuel pump. Testing and Inspection
- Clean strainer if soiled
- Only replace complete with flange and supply line
18 - Sealing ring
- Replace if damaged
- Coat with fuel when installing
19 - 25 Nm
20 - Fuel tank
- Support with engine and transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A when removing
- Removing and installing. Service and Repair
21 - Bracket
- For securing straps
- Note installation position
22 - Securing strap
- Note differing length
- Installation position: Attaching point (holes) point in direction of travel
23 - Retaining ring
- Secured to body
24 - 10 Nm
25 - Fuel filter
- Installation position: Arrow points in direction of flow
26 - Supply line
- Black
- Ensure securely seated
- Secure with spring-type clips
- To fuel supply line on fuel rail
27 - Return line
- Ensure securely seated
28 - Breather
- Ensure securely seated
- Clipped onto top of fuel tank

Mark on flange -1- must align with mark on fuel tank -2

NOTES: After installing fuel delivery unit flange, check that the supply, return and venting lines are still clipped onto the fuel tank.

Lever in rest position: Closed

Lever pushed in direction of arrow: Open

NOTES: Before installing vent valve remove fuel tank cap.
