Section C - Installation of Fuel Level Sending Unit (Loc. -G-)

^ Carefully release and disconnect the harness connector -arrow- from the fuel level sending unit.





^ Remove clamp from fuel return hose -2- and disconnect hose from fuel level sending unit.





^ Remove locking ring from fuel level sending unit cover using 3087 fuel pump wrench.

^ Lift up sender cover from fuel tank.

^ Remove seal from fuel tank opening.





^ Disconnect both harness connectors -1- and -2- from fuel level sending unit on inside of sender cover.

Note:
Connector should be marked for reassembly.





^ Insert 3307 fuel pump wrench through fuel tank opening into inner part of accumulator and turn fuel pump module approx. 15 deg. to the left (counter-clockwise to stop).

Note:
The V-notch -1- on the accumulator housing will move from lock position -3- to unlocked position -2-.





^ V-notch -1- on accumulator must then align with unlocked marked position -2- (bayonet lock).

^ Lift out fuel pump together with inner part of accumulator and set aside.

^ Fuel pump must be removed to provide proper clearance for removal of sending unit.





^ Remove fuel level sending unit from accumulator housing by pressing in on release tab -1- then lifting upward.

NOTE:
Fuel level sender must be installed as a complete unit.

^ Install new fuel sender (4BO 19 673AN) into fuel tank and slide downward in guide at outside of accumulator and push into stop.

CAUTION!
Be careful not to damage the float or the float arm when installing new sender.





^ Reinstall fuel pump with inner part of accumulator by aligning V-notch -1- with mark at position -2-, and using fuel pump wrench 3307 turn fuel pump module approx. 15 deg. to the right (clockwise to stop).

Note:
The V-notch -1- on the accumulator. housing will move from unlock position -2- to locked position -3-.





^ Reconnect harness connectors -1- and -2- to the fuel level sender.

^ Install new seal (8E0 919 133) from kit onto fuel tank ensuring that it is properly seated on the upper and lower edges.





^ Reinstall fuel level sender unit cover by turning counterclockwise.

Note:
Before installing, moisten the seal with fuel.





^ Position of fuel level sending unit cover is correct when arrow -1- on cover is aligned with arrow -2- on fuel tank.

Note:
Black arrow references forward position of the vehicle.





^ Reinstall locking ring using the 3087 wrench and tighten to 120 Nm (89 ft lbs.).

^ Reconnect 4-pin harness connector.

^ Reinstall fuel supply and return lines using (2) new clamps (N 101 969 01) using the YA 3080 crimping tool or equivalent.

^ Proceed to Section D
