Checking For Leaks

Power steering system, checking for leaks
If the hydraulic fluid level is low or after completing repairs, the powers steering system must by checked for leaks.
- Start engine.
- Turn steering from lock to lock and hold briefly.
This produces the maximum possible system pressure.
- Check these areas for leaks:
^ Pinion seal on steering gear valve housing.
^ All line connections
^ Rack seals (open boot clamp and push boot back)
The steering gear must be replaced if fluid is visible in the steering gear housing and/or in the boot.
