Gear Sets, Adjusting Sequence

Gear set, adjusting sequence
When ring gear and pinion shaft need adjusting, follow the sequence below:
1. Determining total shim thickness "S_total" ("S1" + "S2") for differential tapered roller bearing preload. Ring Gear, Adjusting
2. Adjusting preload for drive pinion tapered roller bearing. Ring Gear, Adjusting
3. Determining thickness of shims "S3" and "S4". Pinion Shaft, Adjusting
4. Adjusting backlash. Select thickness of shims "S1" and "S2" so the prescribed backlash between drive pinion and ring gear exists. Pinion Shaft, Adjusting
The purpose of this adjustment is to re-set the position which offers quietest running as calculated on the test machine during production. The utmost care and cleanliness during all assembly work and measurements is essential to achieve a good result.
