Electrical Testing Instructions and Requirements








Special tools and equipment:
- Multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent)
- VW 1594A adapter set
- VAG 1598/14 test box (base unit)
- VAG 1598/20 test box

Additional information required:
- Service and Repair, Automatic Transmission 01V All Wheel Drive.
- Electrical Wiring Diagrams & Component Locations.

Test requirements:
- Battery voltage within specification
- Fuses 15 and 31 OK
- Ground (GND) connections OK

NOTES:
- The specified values are valid for an ambient temperature range of 0 °C - 40 °C (32 °F - 104 °F).
- If the values obtained differ from the specified values, determine the malfunction using the applicable wiring diagram.
- If the readings obtained differ only slightly from the specified values, clean sockets and connectors of the testers and test leads and repeat test. Before replacing a component, test the wiring and connections and, particularly if the specified values are below 10 Ohms, repeat the resistance measurement on the component.

Test prerequisite:
- Observe Test requirements and notes as described above.

Location:
- The Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- is located in front of the passenger seat under the carpet in the footwell.






Test procedure:
- Switch ignition OFF, disconnect multi-pin harness connector in direction of arrow, and remove from Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217-.






- Connect multi-pin harness connector to VAG 1598/20 test box (arrow -1-) by swinging in (arrow -2-) and then lock (arrow -3-).
- Using the VAG 1598/18 test box, the wiring can be checked according to the wiring diagram.






After electrical checks:
- Connect multi-pin harness connector to Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- harness connector housing -1- by swinging in -2- and then lock -3-.

3 - Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) -J220-
4 - Bus driver
5 - Matching resistor
6 - CAN-bus drive (CAN-bus: two wires twisted together)
7 - Matching resistor
8 - Bus driver
9 - ABS control module (w/EDL) -J104-
