Wheel bearing housing, removing and installing
Removing
- Remove bolt for drive axle.
WARNING: The drive axle bolt must be loosened or tightened only with the vehicle standing on its wheels.
- Remove wheels.
- Remove bolts -1- for brake caliper and remove brake caliper (Do not disconnect brake hydraulic line to caliper).
- Secure brake caliper to body with wire.
- Remove brake disc.
- Remove bolts for splash shield.
- Take off splash shield.
- Pull ABS wheel speed sensor out of wheel bearing housing.
- Remove bolt -1- for connecting link.
- Remove bolt -A- for track rod.
- Mark installed position of eccentric washer for bolt -B-.
- Remove bolt -B-.
- Remove bolt -2- for control arm -1-.
- Pull wheel bearing housing off drive axle.
Installing
Install in reverse order
Tightening torques:
Drive axle to hub: 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.) +180°
- Always use a new bolt!
Track rod to wheel bearing housing: 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.)
Control arm to wheel bearing housing: 70 Nm (52 ft. lbs.) + 90°
Wheel bearing housing to lower control arm: 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.)
Connecting link to wheel bearing housing: 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.)
Splash shield to control arm: 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.)
Brake caliper to wheel bearing housing: 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.)
Shock absorber to control arm: 70 Nm (52 ft. lbs.) + 90°
Note:
^ After installing check the position of the steering wheel during a test drive.
^ If the steering wheel is not in the straight-ahead position the wheel alignment must be checked!
