No DTC Recognized

- All the possible malfunctions which are recognized by the transmission control module -J217- and displayed on the VAG 1551 (with the printer switched ON) when the DTC memory is interrogated, are listed below grouped according to the DTC number.
- If malfunctions occur only occasionally or if the DTC memory was not erased after correcting the malfunctions, these malfunctions will be displayed as "sporadic malfunctions" for a certain period of time. Refer to Transmission control module malfunction recognition. Description and Operation
- If components are indicated as being faulty during DTC memory interrogation, additionally test wiring to the components for short circuit and open circuits according to wiring diagram See Electrical Wiring Diagrams and Component Locations, Passat 1998 On.
- The DTC is printed out in the "rapid data transfer" mode only when the printer of VAG 1551 is switched ON.

No DTC recognized! If "No DTC recognized" appears after performing repairs, the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) is completed.
If the automatic transmission still does not operate properly.
- Perform "Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) function 03".
- Perform "Read Measured Value Block" function 08. display group 007.
- Check ECM and TCM identification and correct as necessary.
