Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems: Description and Operation

Troubleshooting - general
- The ABS is a vehicle safety system; knowledge of the system is absolutely necessary to be able to work on it.
- In order to check complaints and to be able to carry out pinpointed troubleshooting, the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory must be checked before beginning work on the ABS system.
- Separate connectors only when the ignition is switched off
- Do not drive the vehicle with the connector disconnected from the ABS control module.
- ABS malfunctions are indicated by the ABS warning light illuminating. Certain malfunctions will only be recognized after driving for at least 30 seconds at a minimum speed of 60 km/h (37 mph).
- If the ABS warning light -K47- and the warning light for brake system -K118- do not light up, but the brake system is not functioning correctly, the malfunction must then be sought in the mechanical/hydraulic part of the braking system.
