Selector lever position signal, checking
Only for vehicles with automatic transmission
Engine control unit receives following information from transmission control module: Driving mode selected (selector lever in 2/3/4/R/D) or No driving mode selected (selector lever in P or N).
Special tools and equipment
- VAG1551 scan tool (or V.A.G 1552 mobile scan tool) with V.A.G 1551/3B cable
- V.A.G 1598/31 adapter cable
- V.A.G 1526 multimeter or V.A.G 1715 multimeter
- V.A.G 1594 connector test kit
- Wiring diagram
Test requirement
- The selector lever of the automatic transmission must be in "P" or "N".
Test sequence
- Connect the VAG1551 scan tool (V.A.G 1552). Start engine and select Engine Control Module (ECM) using address word 01. (Connecting scan tool and selecting ECM.) [1][2][3]Connecting VAG 1551 Scan Tool

- Press buttons -0- and -8- to select "Read measuring value block" function 08. Press -Q- button to confirm input.

- Press buttons -0-, -5- and -6- to select "Display group number 56". Press -Q- button to confirm input.
Indicated on display: (1-4 = Display fields)

- Observe display field 4.
Indication must be specification: x x x 0 x "Neutral".
- Press foot brake pedal and select driving position.
Indication must be specification: jump to x x x 1 x "drive mode.ON".
- Press the -> button.
- Press buttons 0 and 6 for the "End output" function 06. Press -Q- button confirm input.
- Switch ignition off.
If reading does not change:
- Check terminal resistance of CAN-bus. Terminal Resistance For CAN-Bus, Checking
