Differential, Removing And Installing

Note: The differential can be removed and installed while the transmission remains installed in the vehicle.





1. Transmission housing
2. Oil seal
3. Circlip

^ Only for flange shafts that have a spline diameter of 30 mm

Fig. 1 Removing and installing circlip
- Clamp flange shaft in vise using protective jaw covers.
- Press old circlip out of groove in drive flange shaft using new circlip -A-.

A - Internal extractor, e.g. Kukko 21/3, 18.5 - 23.5 mm
If the spacer ring is tight pull out using tool VW 771.

- Drive new spacer ring in onto stop.

Note: With the flange shaft removed the needle bearing (polygon bearing) does not move freely (tight). This does not mean that the bearing is defective.
