Engine Control Module (ECM), Adaptation
Engine Control Module (ECM), adaptation procedure when replacing
NOTE:
- The Engine Control Module (ECM) is adapted to the electronic controls of the immobilizer in the instrument cluster. For replacement of component, a new adaptation must be performed.
- If there are no authorized ignition keys available, new ignition keys must be prepared and adapted
- Secret number must be available, if not, See "Determining secret number",
- Adaptation can be interrupted using the "C" button of the VAG 1551 scan tool.
Requirements
Authorized key available.
NOTE: If all components are being replaced, the new key set must be used at this point.
- Insert old (authorized) key into ignition lock.
- Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST), switch on ignition, select operating mode 1 "Rapid data transfer" and enter address word 01 for "engine electronics".
Display will indicate the control module identification and the coding, e.g.:
3B0906018 1.6L/2V SIMOS3 G00AT0009 ->
Coding XXXXX WSC XXXXX
- 3B0906018 See Part No. of control module (for current control module version, See parts catalog)
- 1.6 L See Engine displacement
- SIMOS3 See system identification
- G See cruise control system enabled
- HS See Manual transmission (Hand Shifting)
AT See Automatic Transmission
- 0009 See program version number
- Coding XXXXX See Control module coding
- WSC xxxxx See Factory identification from the VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST), with which the last coding was performed (if factory coding has not been changed, WSC 00000 will be displayed)
- Press -> button.
Indicated on display:

For new control modules, place holders are indicated before adaptation instead of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and the identification number of the immobilizer.
NOTE:
- If an Engine Control Module (ECM) is being installed that has already been adapted to a different immobilizer, it must first be unlocked via a Login Procedure.
- The secret number must be determined via the 14-digit identification number of this Engine Control Module (ECM). Continue as follows after successful Login Procedure:
