Pump Delivery Pressure Checking



Power steering pump delivery pressure, checking (Vehicles with 6-cyl. engine)





Special tools required

- Unclip and remove engine cover.





- Remove ribbed belt cover.
- Clamp off suction hose with clamp 3094 or equivalent.
- Press connector spring clip and pull connector off injector.





- Disconnect line from pressure hose (arrow). Counter-hold on hex of pressure hose when loosening.





- Thread adapter VAG 1402/3 into line in place of pressure hose.





- Attach pressure gauge VAG 1402 hose to adapter VAG 1402/3.
- Close gauge shut-off valve (lever to left).
- Connect injector connector onto injector.
- Remove clamp from suction hose.
- Start engine and add fluid to reservoir if necessary.
- Open shut-off valve and read pressure on gauge with engine at idling speed (do not hold open longer than 10 seconds).
^ Specification: 110 - 120 bar (1595 - 1740 psi)
If the specifications are not obtained, replace pump.
- Check hydraulic fluid level. Refer to Power Steering Fluid; Testing and Inspection.
- Check steering system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid; Testing and Inspection.
- Bleed steering system. Refer to Power Steering Fluid; Service and Repair.
