Undamaged Rear Window, Removing (wagon)
- Removing rear lid trim
- Remove rear wiper arm (M8 hexagon nut = 15 Nm).
- Pull connector -1- off wiper motor.
- Pull off hose -2- to spray jets.
- Unscrew hexagon nuts -arrows- and remove wiper motor.
- Unscrew cross-head screws -2-, separate connector -3- and take off brake light -1-.
- Pull off connections for heated rear window and press connecting tabs onto window.
- Loosen sealing lip from window flange all round with plastic wedge and spray in cleaning solution D 009 401 04 (as substitute for lubricant).
- Protect window flange with textile reinforced adhesive tape -arrow-.
- Guide trimming needle -2- with help of handle -1- under sealing lip and puncture through adhesive bead (use side areas, wear gloves).
The trimming needle must be guided as close to the window as possible (do not damage heater element).
- Unscrew handle and pass cutting thread through eye of needle.
- Pull one end of cutting thread inside (use pliers and gloves).
- Guide cutting thread in between lip and window flange with help of tube -1- (if the cutting thread should break, then cutting wire can also be used).
- If the gap is too small guide cutting thread on outside and push under the lip with a plastic wedge.
- Place cutting thread round rear window as shown.
NOTE: Press in cutting thread deep enough in order to avoid damaging the sealing lip and/or spacing lip.
- Pull end of thread into vehicle and counter hold with pulling handle V.A.G 1351/1.
- Secure inner end of thread on winding device.
- Place winding device V.A.G 1654 in position.
- Move winding device according to position required and cut windshield free.
- Press cutting thread against window glass with plastic wedge during cutting process, in order to have clearance at window flange.
- Winding device V.A.G 1654A can be used instead of winding device V.A.G 1654.
- One suction cup can be removed from the winding device as shown in illustration. This allows the winding device to be guided closer to the window flange
