Fuel Pump: Locations



FUEL TANK WITH ATTACHMENTS, ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW






1 - Cap
2 - Seal
^ Replace if damaged.
3 - Fuel filler door unit
^ With rubber cup.
4 - Mounting screw
5 - Hose
6 - Ground (GND) connection
^ Ensure seated tightly.
7 - Gravity valve
^ To remove valve unclip upward out of support.
^ Test valve for operation:
- Valve vertical: Open
- Valve angled at 45° : Closed
8 - Changeover valve
^ To remove valve unclip sideways out of support.
9 - Vent line
^ Black
^ Clipped to side of fuel tank.
^ Check for secure fitting.
^ Secure with spring-type clamps.
10 - Pressure retention valve
^ For fuel tank ventilation.
^ To remove valve unclip upward out of support.
11 - Vent line
^ With quick-release coupling.
12 - Supply line
^ Black
^ Clipped to side of fuel tank.
^ Check for secure fitting.
^ Secure with spring-type clamps.
13 - Return line
^ Blue or with blue marking.
^ Clipped to side of fuel tank.
^ Check for secure fitting.
^ Secure with spring-type clamp.
14 - Connector
^ Black, 4-pin
^ For Fuel Level Sensor G and Transfer Fuel Pump (FP) G6.
15 - Union nut, 60 Nm
^ Use ring nut wrench 3217 for removal and installation.
16 - Fuel Level Sensor G
^ Clipped onto baffle housing in fuel tank.
17 - Flange
^ Note installed position on fuel tank.
18 - Supply line
^ Check for secure fitting.
19 - Fuel pump
^Clean strainer if dirty.
20 - Oil seal
^To install, place into opening of fuel tank when dry.
^ Replace if damaged.
^ Only coat flange seal with fuel when installing.
21 - 25 Nm
22 - Bracket
^ For securing straps.
^ Note installed position.
23 - Securing strap
^ Note varying lengths.
^ Installed location:
- Locating point (hole) points faces direction of travel.
24 - Vent line
^ Check for secure fitting.
25 - Vent line
^ From drip reservoir.
26 - Retaining ring
^ Fastened to the body.
27 - 10 Nm
28 - Fuel filter
^ Installed location: Arrow points in direction of flow.
29 - Supply line
^ Black
^ Check for secure fitting.
^ Black
^ Secure with spring-type clamp.
30 - Fuel tank
^ Support with engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A when removing.
31 -Vent line
^ From evaporative emission (EVAP) canister to Evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve N80.
^ Clipped onto the fuel tank.
32 - Return line
^ Check for secure fitting.
33 - Drip reservoir
^ Clipped onto fuel filler tube.
34 - 25 Nm
35 - 0-ring
^ Replace if damaged






Installation position of fuel pump flange

- Marking - 1 - on flange must align with marking - 2 - on fuel tank.


Note: After installing Fuel Pump (FP) flange, check whether supply, return and ventilation lines are still clipped in at fuel tank.






Checking changeover valve

- Pin in rest position: Closed
- Pin pushed in direction of arrow: Open


Note: Before installing changeover valve, remove cap from fuel tank.






Checking pressure retention valve


- The pressure retaining valve is opened in both flow directions - arrow 1 - on the gravity valve side.
- It is only opened in one flow direction - arrow 2 - on the side of changeover valve.
